College wasn't cheap to begin with. Now that states are bankrupt and can't support colleges as much as they used to, colleges aren't getting any cheaper for potential students either. This has a two fold effect: 1) there are less people who can afford college; and 2) the people who can't afford it and still want to go are going to have to find some creative ways to pay for it. While many people still go the student loan route, they will find themselves paying them off for years to come. If you know anyone who went to college in the 1990's they are probably still slowly paying them off. While getting Grant Money For College might be a little trickier then getting student loans, if definitely beats having to pay off the loans that you'll accrue after four years.
In addition to the loan route, some students go the credit card route to pay for the college. This is typically done as a let gasp choice or by someone who doesn't really know how the credit world work. Yes, you'll get to go to school, but if you can't pay the $4000 per semester now, chances are you won't be able to next month either. Add in late charges and interest and suddenly the number can be quadrupled in just a year. While not everyone wil be able to get Grant Money For College, no one should ever go the credit card route. You're better off just taking a semester or two off.
